The popular die-cast action figure line 『METAL BUILD』, released by Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's collector's toy division TAMASHII NATIONS, has announced that a new branch, the 『METAL BUILD EX PROJECT』 series, is developing a new work, 「Type-3 Kiryu」, from the movie 'Godzilla x Mechagodzilla'. Release date is TBD.
Appearing in the 2002 film 'Godzilla x Mechagodzilla', Mechagodzilla is known in the film as Type-3 Kiryu, officially named 'Multi-purpose Fighting System Type-3 (MFS-3)'. This Kiryu was secretly constructed by the Japanese government using the skeletal remains of the original Godzilla salvaged from Tokyo Bay as its framework. Its propulsion system is controlled by a 'DNA computer' structured from its bone marrow cells, allowing Kiryu to move as swiftly as a living creature, fluidly execute close-quarters attacks, and even evade Godzilla's heat ray. It is also equipped with various armaments such as missiles, Type-0 Railgun, Maser Blade, and Type-3 Absolute Zero Cannon. However, the G-forces generated during operation are unbearable for ordinary humans, thus requiring remote control by the support aircraft 'AC-3 Shirasagi'.
The prototype for 「METAL BUILD EX PROJECT Type-3 Kiryu」 has currently been revealed. Its overall design reinterprets the original mechanical aesthetic, with significant adjustments to the skeletal structure, body proportions, and other design elements. This gives Type-3 Kiryu a massive dorsal fin, a thicker tail, and armor contours on its limbs that resemble biological muscle lines, all distinct from the original. Furthermore, biological bone-like appearances are expressed in multiple areas such as the teeth, hand claws, foot claws, and the tip of the tail, echoing the setting that Type-3 Kiryu was constructed using the skeletal remains of the original Godzilla.
