Ever since DC Studios unveiled "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters" for its rebooted universe in 2023, "The Brave and the Bold" has consistently been one of the most anticipated projects among fans.
However, with nearly three years passed since its announcement, the new Batman and Robin film has yet to officially begin production, leading many fans to question the overall progress of the DCU.
The film is slated to be directed by Andy Muschietti, known for "The Flash" and "It," but recent months have seen conflicting reports regarding his continued involvement. That changed recently when a fan shared a photo with Muschietti on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the director's personal confirmation:
"I am still working on 'The Brave and the Bold'," the fan quoted Muschietti as saying, adding that the film won't enter production anytime soon due to "The Batman Part II" beginning principal photography next year.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn previously acknowledged that the new Batman's direction is still being refined. With Matt Reeves' "The Batman" series ongoing, Gunn emphasized the need to differentiate the two versions. He noted that screenwriters have been secured and the script is progressing "quite well," though it's not yet finished.
Gunn further revealed that he already has ideal candidates in mind to portray the next generation of Batman.
"I do have a few actors I like, just like when I chose Superman," Gunn stated. "But it still requires auditions, vetting, and overall evaluation." Gunn stressed that the production will "prioritize quality," preferring to delay rather than rush an underdeveloped version.
Fan reactions to Muschietti's confirmed return have been mixed. While "The Flash" had a lukewarm reception at the box office and with critics, its visual and action sequences were still praised by some viewers. Conversely, some audience members are concerned he may not bring sufficient depth and emotional resonance to the Batman series.
Notably, Gunn isn't concerned about market confusion arising from "dual Batmen." He stated that Robert Pattinson's iteration belongs to the "Elseworlds" series and will not impact the main DCU storyline.
"Audiences are already able to distinguish different universe settings," Gunn commented, "the key is for the story to be good enough."
