Marvel Comics officially announced at this year's New York Comic Con that its popular "Ultimate Universe" imprint will conclude in April 2026, marking the end of this parallel world's saga since its 2023 relaunch. 
This iteration of the Ultimate Universe, spearheaded by writer Jonathan Hickman, originated with his character "The Maker," the Ultimate version of "Mister Fantastic." The Maker manipulated the timeline, erasing the origins of many superheroes and forging a twisted new reality.
However, this altered world eventually began to fight back. A new Spider-Man, Captain America, and an Iron Man closer to Kang the Conqueror than Tony Stark emerged, becoming key forces against him.
Reportedly, The Maker has been imprisoned in Latveria for the past two years. Upon his return to the world two millennia later, cosmic order will once again descend into chaos. The prelude to this final war will unfold in the upcoming "Ultimate Endgame" series.
Written by Deniz Camp with art by Terry Dodson and Jonas Scharf, the five-issue series is slated to debut its first issue on December 31, 2025. The official synopsis states, "When the barrier around the city finally collapses, the heroes of the Ultimate Universe must unite to stop The Maker from completing his plan before the world descends into World War III."
Currently, the "Ultimate Universe" imprint includes ongoing series such as "Ultimate Spider-Man," "Ultimate Black Panther," "Ultimate X-Men," "Ultimate Wolverine," and "The Ultimates," all among Marvel's highest-selling titles in recent years.
Therefore, Marvel's announcement to conclude this publishing line comes as a surprise. However, there were earlier indications that Hickman and Marco Checchetto's "Ultimate Spider-Man" would conclude with its 24th issue, set for release in December. Speculation suggests this ending might simply be paving the way for a future relaunch.
Similar to DC Comics' "Absolute" series, the Ultimate Universe has consistently outsold main universe comics, leading to widespread industry belief that Marvel may eventually relaunch the world. If "The Maker" is decisively defeated in "Ultimate Endgame," a new generation of the Ultimate Universe might be reborn with a fresh new look. 
In particular, "Ultimate Spider-Man," with its popular premise of Peter Parker truly "settling down and starting a family," has led fans to widely believe Marvel won't easily abandon this successful storyline. Regardless of the outcome, 2026 is poised to be the most decisive year in the history of Marvel's "Ultimate Universe."
