Michael Fassbender, who officially transitioned to television last year with the spy series "The Agency," is reportedly taking on another high-profile new drama. Netflix announced today that it is developing a series centered on the Kennedy family, based on Swedish-American historian Fredrik Logevall's 2020 biography of John F. Kennedy, "JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956." The first season is confirmed for eight episodes.

The series was initially announced for development two years ago, but at the time, Netflix envisioned it as a limited miniseries focusing solely on John F. Kennedy's life. It has now expanded to chronicle the entire Kennedy family's history, no longer limited to a single season, but planned for multiple seasons to depict the family's rise in American politics.
According to current official information, the first season will be set in the 1930s, with Fassbender starring as Joseph Kennedy, Sr. Sam Shaw, creator of the series "Manhattan," will serve as showrunner, while acclaimed Danish director Thomas Vinterberg ("The Hunt") will executive produce and direct several episodes. Netflix aims to make the series a major production, akin to an American version of "The Crown," charting the history of a dynastic family across multiple seasons.
