Financial magazine Forbes recently revealed the true production cost of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," totaling an astounding $593.7 million (£450.2 million), making it the third most expensive film ever made.
The updated cost figures for "The Rise of Skywalker" emerged because the film shot in the UK to qualify for tax incentives. The UK consistently mandates that productions submit legally binding financial statements, a requirement even major US studios, which typically don't disclose detailed expenditures, must comply with. These documents are often released in phases, which is why some film and television projects see higher cost estimations surface years after production wraps or their theatrical run ends.

"The Rise of Skywalker" subsequently received a £78.4 million ($103.8 million) rebate from the UK, which reduced the film's net expenditure to $489.9 million. The installment ultimately grossed $1.077 billion worldwide. After theatrical splits, Disney's share amounted to $538 million. Factoring in production costs, Disney secured an approximate net profit of $48.6 million from the box office.
Currently, ranking ahead of "The Rise of Skywalker" as the second and first most expensive films ever are "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," with a total cost of £452 million, and "Jurassic World Dominion," at £453.6 million. The figures for all three films are remarkably close, and coincidentally, all these costs have only recently been disclosed through UK tax filings this year.
