IDW Publishing has announced a shocking storyline, "The Death of Godzilla," for issue #6 of its "Godzilla" comic series. The cover, a direct homage to the globally recognized 1992 "The Death of Superman" classic, was crafted by the original creative team behind that iconic issue.
Written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Nikola Cizmesija, this issue promises a major turning point for the King of the Monsters within IDW's new shared universe. The cover itself was a collaborative effort by Dan Jurgens (pencils), Brett Breeding (inks), and Glenn Whitmore (colors) – the very team responsible for the legendary "Superman" #75 cover.

While the "death" of a protagonist just six issues into a new series might shock fans, IDW emphasizes that this marks merely a new chapter in Godzilla's saga. The publisher revealed that the kaiju will be reborn in issue #7 as the "Kai-Sei Energy Godzilla," signaling the dawn of a new era.
"When IDW approached me about doing a special cover that would echo 'The Death of Superman,' I immediately said yes," Jurgens told IGN. "I've always been a Godzilla fan but never had the opportunity to draw him, so this was the perfect chance. It was both exciting and nostalgic to recreate that classic composition."

"Godzilla" #6 is slated for release on January 7, 2026.
