Two years ago, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" surprised fans by teasing a future cinematic crossover with fellow Hasbro IP, "G.I. Joe," in its post-credits scene. Subsequent reports even suggested Chris Hemsworth was attached to star and a screenwriter had been set. However, with little new progress on the live-action crossover film in the past two years, an animated series uniting the franchises may now arrive first.

Today, Deadline exclusively reported that Robert Kirkman, the acclaimed creator behind "The Walking Dead" and "Invincible," is bringing his Energon Universe comic series to the screen as an animated show. Much like Kirkman's "Invincible," this new series will embrace an "adult-oriented" tone, aiming for deeper emotional storytelling.
The Energon Universe is Kirkman's expansive cross-IP shared universe, featuring characters from Hasbro-licensed properties "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe," alongside original creations from Kirkman's own comic series, "Void Rivals."
While the animated series has yet to land on a network or streaming platform, it remains to be seen whether it or Paramount's live-action crossover film will ultimately debut first.
