Image Comics Unveils Ultra-Rare "Spawn: The Dark Ages" Covers; Marvel Teases "Cosmic Invasion" Variant Series

Comic fans are in for a double treat this winter. Image Comics has announced that "Spawn: The Dark Ages" #1 will hit shelves on November 19, 2025, featuring two ultra-rare limited-edition covers. These highly collectible variants, crafted by legendary creators Todd McFarlane and Liam Sharp, are expected to be a major draw for collectors.

The first, a 1:250 incentive variant, showcases Sharp's Cover A artwork with additional "Spawn" background details personally added by McFarlane, symbolizing the collaborative legacy between the two generations of creators.

The second is an even rarer 1:1000 incentive variant, featuring original, hand-drawn artwork by Sharp on a blank sketch cover. Each copy will be a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. Image Comics emphasizes that this cover lineup marks a significant new chapter for the "Spawn" series.

Beyond Image Comics, Marvel Comics has also revealed plans to release a series of "Marvel Cosmic Invasion" game-linked variant covers starting in January 2026.

Developed by Dotemu and Tribute Games, this arcade-style side-scrolling beat 'em up allows players to control 15 classic heroes, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Nova, and Venom, as they embark on a cosmic battle.

Marvel will release twelve variant covers featuring the official in-game character designs. These covers will appear across various comic titles such as "Venom," "X-Men," "Iron Man," and "Fantastic Four," paying homage to the classic 80s and 90s art style with a retro pixel aesthetic.

"Spawn: The Dark Ages" is set to launch in November, while Marvel's "Cosmic Invasion" cover series will be released over two consecutive months, beginning in January 2026.
