The upcoming "Ocean's Eleven" prequel, initially set to star Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, saw Gosling's departure last month, with Bradley Cooper stepping in as his replacement. Today, foreign media outlet Nexus Point News further reported that Cannes Best Actor winner Benicio del Toro is in talks to join the cast, potentially portraying the film's antagonist.

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Korean-American filmmaker behind "Twisters," the prequel is set in the 1960s, mirroring the era of the original 1960 "Ocean's Eleven" film. Robbie and Cooper are expected to play the parents of master thieves Danny Ocean and Debbie Ocean — the central protagonists portrayed by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock in the previous four installments. Carrie Solomon, who penned Netflix's romantic comedy "A Family Affair" last year, is credited with writing the latest draft of the screenplay.

Next year will see two "Ocean's Eleven" projects begin production: this prequel and a direct fourth installment featuring the return of Clooney and Brad Pitt. Release dates for both films are yet to be announced.
