Ever since "Alice in Wonderland" grossed over $1 billion worldwide, Walt Disney Pictures has spent the last 15 years continuously revisiting its animated classics for live-action adaptations. The 1959 animated classic "Sleeping Beauty" is one such example, which Disney used as a blueprint for the "Maleficent" series, reimagining the story from the villain Maleficent's perspective. The series currently has two installments, and a third film is already confirmed to be in development.

But beyond the "Maleficent" series, Disney appears to have other plans for the "Sleeping Beauty" IP. Renowned entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman recently revealed on his Patreon page that Disney is currently developing another "Sleeping Beauty" film, directly using the protagonist Aurora's name as the title. The story will be set in Mexico, strongly suggesting that Aurora, traditionally depicted as white, will likely be portrayed by a Latina actress, similar to this year's live-action "Snow White." However, Richtman did not specify whether the project is a live-action film or an animated feature.
