Ten years of waiting to sharpen a sword, the Iron-Blooded Orphans, who were almost wiped out by the Dainsleif back then, finally got the chance to appear on the big screen alongside the "unfilial son of the flash," to once again experience the shocking audio-visual spectacle of massive metal clashing during the decisive battles between MS and MA in the Iron-Blooded Orphans series (Minor spoilers ahead, please proceed with caution...).
Urðr Hunt
Regarding the weekly bonus videos promoted domestically, I cannot comment as I did not see them. As for the main feature, rather than a movie, it felt more like a condensed compilation of the mobile game that ceased operations back in 2024. The protagonist is a white-haired boy from Venus named Wistario Afam, piloting the Gundam Hajiroboshi, formerly the Gundam Flauros. Under the guidance of a mysterious girl, he sequentially travels to various designated locations based on a ring in his hand, overcoming challenges, conducting intelligence gathering missions, and recruiting teammates (X).
Having not previously engaged with the game's backstory and only possessing faint memories of the two seasons of the Iron-Blooded Orphans anime, I found it a bit challenging at first. Due to the limited runtime, the plot's pace is incredibly tight and fast, often moving to the next scene before I could fully grasp the relationships between characters; or sometimes, certain character dialogues were simply narrated by the mysterious girl (I genuinely forgot her name), briefly explaining the plot. Therefore, my focus during the rest of the viewing was entirely immersed in the film's exhilarating battle scenes: Aside from this film's MVP, the Gundam Flauros, cloaked, full of malevolence, and spreading its wings like a spider to rampage against the Mobile Armors during the Calamity War, the Gundam Hajiroboshi, with its continuous green afterimages and fully maxed-out 'cheats,' and the Gundam Gremory, which launched from orbit alongside it, as well as the brother duo who always reminded me of Moonlight Detective whenever they appeared, were all highlights that caught my eye in the film. The twist at the end even evoked a sense of déjà vu from Char's Counterattack, with Quess Paraya floating in space and embracing Char (Spinning~ Jumping~ With my eyes closed~). In summary, while the plot of this theatrical release might have a certain barrier to entry, it still retains some memorable entertainment value.
Interlude Wedge
The timeline is set between the two anime seasons, just before the Gundam Barbatos was sent to Jupiter for repairs. Although it's only a short ten-odd minutes, it can be considered the absolute highlight of this viewing experience. All the main characters of Tekkadan are still alive. The Gundam Barbatos, freshly damaged in the Battle of Edmonton, was modified into an adaptive type, no longer able to wield its mace for widespread attacks, and even the katana it used was deemed too fragile by Mikazuki, requiring more powerful armaments... The interlude also showed why Orga changed into his famous burgundy suit. Watching the Tekkadan members eager to grow and thrive, and the scene of Mikazuki and Orga fist-bumping for their beliefs, felt like a dream returning to those boys whose dreams had not yet been shattered by reality. It can also be considered a fitting interim conclusion for the Iron-Blooded Orphans 10th anniversary.
