Hailing from Israel, Gal Gadot's steadfast support for her homeland has, in recent years, increasingly drawn the ire of the public and her Hollywood peers amidst the Israel-Palestine conflict. Earlier this year, Gadot was the subject of a petition signed by dozens of industry insiders requesting the Academy to "reconsider" her attendance at the Oscars ceremony, faced protestors on the red carpet, and even encountered pro-Palestinian activists disrupting her film set. Gadot herself reportedly attributed the poor box office performance of "Snow White" to audience aversion to her political stance.
To date, the widespread backlash against Gadot shows no signs of abating. Prominent American left-wing political commentator Hasan Piker (pictured below) recently offered a scathing critique of Gadot during an interview with Variety magazine.

Piker stated unequivocally that he agreed Gadot should have been excluded from the Oscars earlier this year, but for reasons beyond politics. "I think she should be barred from the Oscars because her acting is terrible. She doesn't deserve to be at the Oscars; she's so sinful that she not only cursed the DC universe but every film she's been in. But jokes aside, Gal Gadot plays a crucial role in downplaying Israeli actions, making people feel that Israel is not a fascist nation-state but a fairyland that produces beautiful women, and these beautiful women just happen to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces, because there's also a strange objectification phenomenon in their military, and this phenomenon is also crucial in normalizing and whitewashing Israel's various actions."
Piker further added, "If Gal Gadot's acting were as good as Natalie Portman's (Portman also born in Israel), perhaps not as many people would criticize her. Natalie Portman has also made some neutral statements regarding Israel, but ultimately, no one blamed her for it because her acting is just superb; she's been amazing since she was a teenager. My God, 'Léon: The Professional' was so brilliant!"
