Last Wednesday, Paramount Skydance Pictures confirmed that the J.J. Abrams-produced "Star Trek" film series had been shelved, with a full reboot underway and no plans for a fourth installment. Today, the directors for this new reboot have quickly been announced.
Foreign media outlet Deadline exclusively reported that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the directing duo behind "Game Night," will take the helm of the new "Star Trek" series. They are set to serve as writers, producers, and directors for the upcoming film. It's crucial to emphasize that this iteration will not be a soft reboot, nor will it connect to the timeline of the TV series as the J.J. Abrams films did; instead, it will be a complete overhaul, starting fresh from the ground up.

Daley and Goldstein bring extensive experience with IP reboots to the table. They co-wrote and directed "Vacation," a soft reboot sequel to the classic comedy "National Lampoon's Vacation" series. They also contributed as screenwriters to Marvel Studios' "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Furthermore, they successfully overturned the negative reception of the original "Dungeons & Dragons" film by creating the critically acclaimed "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves."
Although "Honor Among Thieves," also a Paramount production, underperformed at the box office when it was released two years ago, audiences and critics who saw it universally praised it. This widespread acclaim is likely why Paramount Skydance Pictures remains confident in entrusting them with the "Star Trek" reboot.
