LeeeeeeToy: The Game of Lifeeeeee
Inspired by the "handheld game consoles" that emerged in the 1980s and 90s, this exhibition combines LeeeeeeToy's consistent "Mo Lei Tau" style (a Cantonese term for nonsensical humor). It incorporates the "multi-functionality" and "game of life" with their multiple choices and different combinations, along with "機" (jī), which symbolizes opportunity.
Five games were developed simultaneously under the theme "Passing Through Five Gates and Slaying Six Generals," virtually representing the five stages of life humans must face and the six decisive figures brought by fate. In this exhibition, they are presented as a series of five 3D paintings! This prompts players to contemplate the objective reality of the interaction between the game's protagonist and the real world, its extended context, and its widespread influence across the globe.
●Level 1: RUN EGO RUN
The first life stage faced after being born from between a mother's legs, confronting one's own birth—the elements that make up "me": soul, facial features, even wealth... Are you ready to start the great adventure of life?
▼ Tying into the "Game of Lifeeeeee" theme, in addition to the game cartridges, opening them reveals the game screen for each level!
●Level 2: LOVE✕KUNG-FU
▼ Can you guess which IPs these three silhouettes are alluding to? (•⚗৺⚗•)
●Level 3: SUPER EARTHLY G
A play on the Hong Kong TVB program "A Glimpse of the World," this piece switches the perspective to that of Captain Planet, showing you the world's beauty and bizarre wonders.
●Level 4: MAKE LIFE GREAT AGAIN
●Level 5: WAKEN (If I Don't Go to Hell, Who Will?)
In the final game, what awaits is death and awakening. Looking back at this game of life, would you be willing to press the RESTART button and play it all over again?
▼ In the corner, there's a small Earth Buddha... undergoing life's training?
▼ You can scan the QR code on the wall to view the exhibition introduction.
▼ Thanks to LeeeeeeToy for bringing such a wonderful exhibition~
Additionally, not far away at the YIRI ARTS art space (No. 1, Lane 86, Xinming Rd, Neihu Dist., Taipei City), there is a merchandise area. Toy People who love LeeeeeeToy and want to take some collectibles home should definitely check it out!
