Two years ago, Deadline reported that Amazon and MGM were looking to revive a significant portion of their intellectual property, a slate that included the "Stargate" franchise, which has spawned numerous films and television series. This week, Amazon and MGM officially announced they have found the lead to helm the new "Stargate" project: Martin Gero, a seasoned writer who previously contributed to several "Stargate" series.
Gero served as co-writer for seasons 9 and 10 of the original series, "Stargate SG-1," and also penned episodes for "Stargate: Atlantis" and "Stargate Universe." His upcoming return to the franchise will once again be in a series format.

In his personal statement, Gero reflected on his first official job in television as a Story Editor for "Atlantis," expressing gratitude to the "Stargate" franchise for teaching him invaluable skills in TV production. He also conveyed his excitement that Amazon and MGM have entrusted him with the crucial responsibility of crafting a new chapter for "Stargate."
Beyond Gero's return, Dean Devlin, screenwriter of the original "Stargate" film, and Roland Emmerich, its director, will remain attached as executive producers. Brad Wright, who worked on multiple "Stargate" series, and Joe Mallozzi, another prolific writer for the franchise, will continue their involvement as consulting producers.
