Legendary Pictures' upcoming live-action "Gundam" film, which previously tapped Sydney Sweeney as its female lead, is reportedly adding another major cast member. The Hollywood Reporter (THR) revealed today that Noah Centineo, known for starring in the "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" trilogy and "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser," is in talks to play the male lead.
Centineo has been a rising star, recently reported to be taking over the lead in a new "Rambo" project, following in the footsteps of Sylvester Stallone's iconic "First Blood" series. He also joined another Legendary Pictures production, the new live-action "Street Fighter" film, portraying the character Ken, with major projects consistently coming his way.

THR also noted that Legendary had initially been in discussions with Drew Starkey (pictured above), who gained prominence for his roles in "Outer Banks" and "Queer," for the male lead. However, those talks ultimately didn't materialize, leading the studio to pivot its focus to Centineo.
The Hollywood Reporter further mentioned that the relationship between the film's male and female leads is envisioned as a "Romeo and Juliet" dynamic. They belong to opposing planetary factions and become embroiled in an interstellar war, but ultimately find a profound connection with each other. Reportedly, the true narrative focus of the film lies with Sweeney's character, and as such, she was deeply involved in the casting process for the male lead.
The American live-action "Gundam" film will be written and directed by Jim Mickle, the showrunner behind the Netflix series "Sweet Tooth." Paramount and Skydance Media, which recently inked a new cooperation agreement with Legendary Pictures, are expected to handle global distribution.
