Some fans may recall that even before "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hit theaters, a confident Lucasfilm announced a collaboration with director Rian Johnson, who helmed "The Last Jedi," to develop a new "Star Wars" trilogy with a highly secretive plot. However, over the past eight years, this trilogy has seen no progress. Whenever Johnson or Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy were asked for updates, their responses merely clarified that the trilogy hadn't been canceled, offering no further information.

Now, the wait for updates on this trilogy can cease, as there will be no more progress. Johnson, currently busy promoting his latest film, "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery," confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that his "Star Wars" trilogy has been officially scrapped and will no longer be developed.
However, the cancellation of the trilogy won't leave Johnson idle. He has the popular "Knives Out" franchise to continue, an original sci-fi film in development with an undisclosed plot, and the US adaptation of "3 Body Problem," which he executive produces, has already been renewed.
