The treasure-hunting fantasy adventure "Jungle Cruise," starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, premiered in 2021 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Released simultaneously in theaters and on streaming, the film ultimately grossed over $200 million worldwide. While this figure represented a loss for a production with a reported $200 million budget, Disney Studios, considering the unique distribution circumstances, still opted to pursue a sequel that year, announcing development for a second installment.

However, four years later, Johnson, who served as both star and producer, has now confirmed that the sequel plans have been scrapped. "I don't think there's going to be a sequel," Johnson stated. "I think with the change of leadership at Disney, and then, you know, COVID, there was a lot of strategic changes that were made. COVID, in so many ways, changed our business. I guess they just evaluated the IP and said, 'We've made one, and we're not sure if we should make another one.' Regardless of the great chemistry Emily and I had." Blunt, the film's co-star, also commented, "They just didn't want to go on another cruise, and that's okay."
