A defamation and sexual harassment lawsuit has cast a significant shadow over the low-budget romance film "It Ends with Us," which has already grossed over $300 million worldwide. Director Justin Baldoni filed the suit against lead actress and producer Blake Lively, as well as Lively's husband, Ryan Reynolds. The ongoing legal battle now threatens any potential future adaptations of the original novel's sequels. Even author Colleen Hoover (pictured below) has publicly stated she is now ashamed to admit she wrote the book that inspired the film.

In a recent interview with ELLE magazine, Hoover candidly admitted, "I can't even recommend this book publicly now. I feel like the lawsuit has overshadowed it, and I almost dare not admit that I wrote it. When someone asks me what I do, I just say, 'I'm a writer, but please don't ask me what books I've written.'"
Hoover further revealed that the book, inspired by her mother's real-life experiences, has caused her mother emotional distress due to the legal turmoil. "The book was inspired by her story, and now when we think about it, we get PTSD," Hoover shared. "I'm so sorry because I feel like she's suffering more from the aftermath of this film than she did back then with my father; just seeing all this ugly chaos is enough to torment her. Although over time, time will dilute all our pain, it's still sad because I used to be very proud of that book, and I still am proud of it, just not as openly anymore. I don't know, maybe I need therapy."
