Barbara Broccoli, the acclaimed producer of the James Bond film series and second-generation rights holder, has set her next major project: a new film adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play "Othello." This announcement follows her significant deal earlier this year, which saw the future creative control of the Bond franchise sold to Amazon for $1 billion.

Broccoli will executive produce the film through her EON Productions banner. David Oyelowo ("Selma") is slated to direct and will also star in the titular role. Joining him are Golden Globe winner Rachel Brosnahan, who portrays the new Lois Lane in the upcoming "Superman" film, and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo, known for her role as Elphaba in the "Wicked" film series.
This cinematic endeavor is inspired by Broccoli's 2016 stage production of "Othello," which featured Oyelowo, Brosnahan, and Erivo in key roles. For the film, Oyelowo will reprise his performance as Othello, Brosnahan will return as Othello's wife Desdemona, and Erivo will play Desdemona's servant Emilia. In addition to his acting duties, Oyelowo will also helm the project as director.
