News first broke in August that "Fargo" and "Alien" showrunner Noah Hawley, alongside "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" comedic actor Rob McElhenney (pictured below), were set to produce a live-action series adaptation of the "Far Cry" video game franchise. Today, FX Networks officially confirmed the project.

Both Hawley and McElhenney are long-standing collaborators with FX. Hawley's acclaimed series "Fargo" and the upcoming "Alien" are both produced and broadcast by the network, while McElhenney's "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" stands as one of FX's longest-running and most iconic sitcoms. Beyond his producing role for the "Far Cry" series, McElhenney is also slated to star, though his involvement is expected to be limited to the first season. The creative team plans to mirror the video game franchise's approach of introducing new characters and narratives with each installment, developing the show as an anthology series that will feature a fresh cast every season.
In a statement, Hawley expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "One of the things I love about the 'Far Cry' series is its anthology nature. Each game is a variation on a theme, just as each season of 'Fargo' is a variation on a theme. To be able to create a large-scale action series that reinvents itself every year, while continuing to explore the nature of humanity through a complex and chaotic lens, is a dream come true."
