“Tomb Raider” Reboot and Sequel Revealed: “Legacy of Atlantis” and “Catalyst” Usher in a New Era for the Series

At this year's Game Awards, the "Tomb Raider" series received its most ambitious announcement to date, with Crystal Dynamics and its partner teams unveiling two new titles: "Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis," a reimagining of the original game, and "Tomb Raider: Catalyst," an entirely new chapter. These two titles are slated for release in 2026 and 2027, respectively, promising players distinct adventure experiences.

"Legacy of Atlantis" reinterprets the 1996 original "Tomb Raider" in a fully modernized form. Officials emphasize that this is not merely a remake, but an entirely new adventure built with Unreal Engine 5, integrating next-generation technology, art, and level design. Players will once again step into the shoes of Lara Croft, navigating perilous terrains and solving ancient puzzles within ancient ruins. This title is positioned as Crystal Dynamics' starting point for reintroducing Lara to a new generation of players.

In contrast, "Catalyst" represents a new direction for the series. Set in northern India, its story unfolds as a mythical cataclysm awakens an ancient, dormant power. As treasure hunters from around the globe converge on the region, Lara must uncover the truth amidst the fractured landscape and prevent others from harnessing this power to unleash greater chaos.

"Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis" is slated for a 2026 release, while "Tomb Raider: Catalyst" is set to arrive in 2027. Both titles will serve as the core starting point for Lara Croft's adventure blueprint for the next decade.
