The DCU's upcoming "Supergirl" film is still over a year away from its official release, but early test screening reports are already circulating within the industry. According to multiple leakers, the movie recently held internal screenings, and while the overall reception wasn't overwhelmingly positive, reactions have largely leaned favorable, fostering cautious optimism for the new project.
Film critic Daniel Richtman, who first broke the news, stated that the feedback he received from multiple test screening attendees was "almost entirely positive." However, another source, known for accurately leaking runtimes and trailer information, indicated that the film currently clocks in at approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes. This source described the overall performance as not particularly outstanding, but certainly not a failure, noting that some sequences were distinctly more engaging than others.
Milly Alcock, portraying Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, has garnered widespread praise and is considered one of the film's standout elements. In contrast, the villain, "Huang Shan Krelm," was described as somewhat bland, failing to leave a strong impression. On a more positive note, Jason Momoa's Lobo reportedly features in two fight scenes, marking his anticipated DCU debut and remaining a key highlight.
Notably, DC Studios' previous "Superman" film also faced mixed opinions during its test screenings but ultimately achieved audience approval. Consequently, industry insiders generally advise against drawing premature conclusions, emphasizing that the primary goal of test screenings is to identify issues and make adjustments. Future edits or reshoots to enhance the overall presentation are not being ruled out.
Craig Gillespie, director of "Cruella," helms "Supergirl," with DC Universe veteran writer Ana Nogueira penning the script. The film is slated for a global release on June 26, 2026.
