Last month, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively revealed that Sony Pictures had officially inked a deal with Pop Mart, the company behind the popular LABUBU character, to develop a film adaptation. King is no stranger to handling beloved IPs, children's fantasy, and adapting animated characters, boasting a proven track record of success. His "Paddington" series garnered widespread critical acclaim, hailed as a benchmark for high-quality live-action/animated hybrid films featuring anthropomorphic animals. Following his foray into the mainstream Hollywood studio system, King's "Wonka" similarly revitalized the on-screen magic of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," raking in over $600 million worldwide.
