December 18 next year is shaping up to be a monumental clash at the box office, as two highly anticipated Hollywood sequels are set to go head-to-head. One is "Dune: Part Three," and the other is "Avengers: Doomsday." Both Disney and Warner Bros. Pictures are reportedly holding firm on the shared release date, refusing to yield. This scheduling showdown has already sparked speculation among some netizens, who are wondering if it could ignite a new "Barbenheimer"-style phenomenon, potentially fueling a "Dunesday" craze that boosts both films' theatrical runs.
However, the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon's success was largely attributed to the stark genre differences between "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer," which created an absurd contrast that captivated audiences. Their target demographics also didn't heavily overlap, allowing both films to mutually benefit from the meme-driven trend. The comparison between "Dune: Part Three" and "Doomsday" (referring to "Avengers: Doomsday"), however, appears to be more similar in appeal, suggesting that replicating the "Barbenheimer" level of buzz might be a challenge.

So, what are Disney and Warner Bros. thinking about this impending collision? Renowned entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider recently revealed on his YouTube show "The Hot Mic" that Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind "Dune: Part Three," has no intention of altering its release date. Fellow entertainment journalist Matt Belloni further elaborated on his podcast "The Town", stating that Warner Bros. is adamant they secured the date first and will not back down.
