TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, has officially announced the latest product in its statue figure series "Figuarts Zero Touche Métallique", the "Double Mazinger", based on Go Nagai's classic manga series "Mazinger Z" and "Great Mazinger", slated for release in November 2026.
"Mazinger Z" is a super robot built by Dr. Juzo Kabuto before his death to combat Dr. Hell, who sought to conquer the world. His grandson, Koji Kabuto, piloted it and, after countless battles, finally defeated Dr. Hell. However, the vast power lurking behind him, the "Mycenae Empire", was just beginning its invasion of Earth. For this reason, Koji's father, Kenzo Kabuto, created another, more powerful "Great Mazinger" based on Mazinger Z, and trained the orphan Tetsuya Tsurugi as its pilot to defend Earth in place of Koji, who had gone abroad to study. As powerful enemies like the Great General of Darkness drew closer, the two finally reunited in the latter half of the story, realizing the thrilling scene of the two great Mazingers fighting together.
The "Figuarts Zero Touche Métallique Double Mazinger" features two powerful super robots sculpted in a three-dimensional form, standing approximately 20 cm tall. The overall design is consistent with the previous two releases, "Grendizer" and "Steel Jeeg", with master sculptor Tomonobu Fuchi handling the prototype production. It boasts characteristic features such as the extremely robust body and limbs, and exposed spiral patterns at the joints, closely resembling those seen in Ken Ishikawa's short manga "The Legacy of Mycenae's Terror".
Mazinger Z stands approximately 19.5 cm tall including the base, presented in a powerful pose unleashing its special move, "Breast Fire". Its smooth armor is finished with a semi-gloss paint to express texture, while the head and joints feature various metallic paint applications. The heat sink on its chest, which emits the Breast Fire, is further treated with red electroplating, creating a unique metallic luster.
Great Mazinger is presented in a powerful pose, approximately 21 cm tall, drawing its Mazinger Blade and firing Thunder Break from its fingertips. The painting technique, including the electroplated heat sink, is identical to Mazinger Z. The massive Mazinger Blade in its hand also features electroplating to achieve a silvery-white blade and a golden hilt.
The rock-shaped bases for both machines are individual, separate parts, allowing for joint or separate display, or even combined with the separately sold Grendizer and Steel Jeeg, to showcase the captivating world of Go Nagai's robot works.
