Two weeks into its theatrical run, the highly anticipated year-end blockbuster "Avatar: Fire and Ash" has captivated audiences, particularly with the intriguing dynamic between series antagonist Colonel Quaritch and the newly introduced leader of the Ash People, Varang. Their on-screen relationship is a complex blend of alliance and an intense physical connection. Frequently seen together and holding hands after forming their pact, their intimate interactions have led many viewers to believe a romance was blossoming between the two characters.

However, Stephen Lang, who portrays Colonel Quaritch, holds a different perspective. In a recent interview with Discussing Film, Lang stated that he didn't view their relationship through the lens of sexual tension. He acknowledged a potential initial spark but leaned more towards a romantic interpretation, noting that the lighting and many subtle details on screen created an environment ripe for romantic undertones. Yet, for these two characters, romance was never a core component of their dynamic, suggesting any such developments were accidental or perhaps even Eywa's will. Lang added that he appreciated the *implication* of romance, only recognizing it once he saw the final footage, as it wasn't explicitly performed that way during filming.
