Disney's planned live-action "Hercules" film, in development since 2020, has yet to begin production, nearly six years later. The project long ago tapped the Russo Brothers, directors of the "Avengers" franchise, to produce, Guy Ritchie, director of the live-action "Aladdin," to helm, and David Callaham, co-writer of 2014's American "Godzilla," to pen the script. However, creative direction reportedly remains unresolved.

Joe Russo (pictured right), one half of the directing duo, stated three years ago that the live-action "Hercules" would have an experimental style and aim to appeal to contemporary audiences accustomed to TikTok. However, the more conservative Disney is reportedly less than thrilled with their experimental approach.
According to well-known entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman on his Patreon page, the Russo Brothers later proposed shifting the live-action film's focus to Hades, even suggesting a complete title change from "Hercules" to "Hades." Disney, conversely, reportedly prefers a straightforward adaptation that remains faithful to the animated classic. It remains to be seen which party will compromise, or to what extent they will meet in the middle.
