TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, has announced the commercialization of the "AV-98Plus Ingram," the latest entry in the robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT SPIRITS," from the animated film "Patlabor EZY." The release date is yet to be determined.
The "AV-98Plus Ingram," a Labor operated by the Special Vehicles Section 2, Second Unit in the 2030s and piloted by protagonist Towa Kuga, is a thoroughly improved version based on the "Type-98 AV Ingram" released in 1998. Both its control system software and mechanical hardware performance have been significantly enhanced, and the pilot's head-mounted display utilizes AR (Augmented Reality) HUD technology, allowing them to confirm necessary information without diverting their gaze during operation.
"Patlabor EZY" continues the series' timeline, with the story set in Japan in the 2030s, where the working population is increasingly dwindling. Multi-legged walking large machines (Labors), once considered cutting-edge technology, have now become an integral part of supporting society's infrastructure. Furthermore, with the continuous development of AI and automation technology, Labors requiring human operation are gradually being replaced by autonomous robots, becoming obsolete. Despite the changing times, the Special Vehicles Section 2 of the Metropolitan Police Department's Security Bureau continues its mission of protecting people and cities. Protagonist Towa Kuga's Second Unit, along with the "AV-98Plus Ingram" (an improved version of an older model), jointly use their wisdom and courage to combat ever-evolving technological crimes.
The prototype of "ROBOT SPIRITS AV-98Plus Ingram" was first exhibited at "TAMASHII NATION 2025" held late last year. Its design faithfully reproduces details from the anime setting, such as the armor styling that differs from the older model, the joint areas covered with rubber sleeves, the golden police emblem on the chest, and the patterns on the transparent light covers. It also incorporates multiple articulated joint designs.
