BANDAI SPIRITS' collector's toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has announced the latest product in its transforming alloy toy 'DX Chogokin' series, the "VF-1S Valkyrie Roy Focker Special REVIVAL Ver." from Macross, slated for release in August 2026.
The VF-1S Valkyrie is a limited-production enhanced Valkyrie unit, equipped with the more powerful FF-2001D engine and a head unit with improved weapon and communication performance. Due to its scarcity, it is typically used as a commander's unit. In the TV series, Skull Squadron leader Roy Focker also piloted this model. His personal unit was known as the "Roy Focker Special," featuring distinctive yellow and black livery and skull markings. After Roy's death, the unit was inherited by the protagonist, Hikaru Ichijo.
The "VF-1S Valkyrie Roy Focker Special REVIVAL Ver." is based on the standard version released in 2020, essentially a re-release with modifications. All parts, color schemes, and fuselage markings are carried over from the standard version, with the only addition being two pairs of interchangeable hand parts featuring the rounded finger design from the TV version. It does not include the "Fighter Mode Display Stand" that was a first-run bonus at the time. The product's price has increased from 19,800 JPY (tax included) to 26,400 JPY (tax included) due to recent global inflation and Japan's monetary easing policies.
The product is crafted based on the anime's design, faithfully reproducing the distinctive yellow and black livery of the fuselage. Various fuselage markings and skull patterns are recreated using tampo printing technology, with rich armor details sculpted throughout. Notably, the head features the TV version's design, which has subtle differences from the theatrical version, and the four laser cannons on the head are independently articulated. Thanks to its alloy frame and precise transformation mechanism, the Valkyrie can achieve complete transformation into its three forms: Fighter, Gerwalk, and Battroid. In Battroid mode, the total height reaches 28 cm.
In Fighter mode, the three sets of landing gear and the cockpit canopy on the underside of the fuselage all feature deployment mechanisms. The cockpit interior is meticulously detailed with seats and control systems, and the included 1/60 scale "Roy Focker Pilot Figure" can be placed inside. Both Gerwalk and Battroid modes feature flexible articulated joint designs, allowing for dynamic battle poses using the included "55mm 3-barrel Gatling Gunpod" weapon. Furthermore, in Battroid mode, the "Abdominal Detail Enhancement Parts" can be used for an even more refined appearance.
