After a buzzworthy and divisive 2025, Magic: The Gathering has officially confirmed its complete release plan for 2026.
The year will feature seven premier sets, with four being Universes Beyond crossovers and the remaining three returning to the game's original planes. Wizards of the Coast is continuing its recent strategy of balancing original content with crossover collaborations, aiming to strike a balance between its core player base and new audiences.
"Lorwyn Eclipsed" — January 2026

Kicking off 2026, the first set will take players back to Lorwyn in a Universes Within original world release. Wizards has confirmed the set will introduce the first-ever "Draft Night Box." Additionally, Commander Decks are making a comeback after a year's absence, offering both five-color and Jund configurations. For longtime players, this move signals a commitment to strengthening the game's own lore amidst the wave of crossovers.
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" — March 2026

First revealed at New York Comic Con, the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" set is the second Universes Beyond collaboration of 2026. The series will feature a vibrant new art style and introduce a "Turtle Team Up" co-op mode. A five-color Commander Deck centered around the four turtles has already been announced, clearly targeting players who enjoy character-driven gameplay.
"Secrets of Strixhaven" — April 2026

Information on this return to Strixhaven is still limited, but an official tie-in novel has been confirmed. The plane of Strixhaven was previously well-received for its distinct academic theme and mechanical design. The market widely anticipates that this release will build on its narrative and gameplay strengths, serving as a key pillar for the year's original sets.
"Marvel Super Heroes" — June 2026

Following the debut of Spider-Man in 2025, the Marvel Universe is expanding its presence in a big way in 2026. This set will focus on the comic book versions of the heroes, with cards for Iron Man, Black Panther, and the Fantastic Four already revealed. All eyes are on whether this release can surpass the conservative reception of its predecessor by leveraging a much larger roster of characters to boost its overall appeal.
"The Hobbit" — August 2026

After the massive success of "The Lord of the Rings" collaboration, Wizards of the Coast is returning to Middle-earth with a new set themed around "The Hobbit." Official details are conceptual at this stage, emphasizing Bilbo's journey and the story's fantasy atmosphere. Given the world's strong thematic alignment with Magic, this set is already being viewed as one of 2026's most promising crossover releases.
"Reality Fracture" — October 2026

The final original world set for 2026, "Reality Fracture," will have connections to "Tarkir: Dragonstorm" and "Outlaws of Thunder Junction." The development team has only revealed that the set features a theme players have long been asking for, but details remain under wraps. It is already being positioned as a critical juncture for the year's overarching story and mechanical design.
"Star Trek" — November 2026

Closing out the year is a Universes Beyond set celebrating the 60th anniversary of "Star Trek." The content will span from the original series all the way to "Strange New Worlds," and Wizards has already released a teaser trailer. This release demonstrates that Wizards isn't shying away from sci-fi themes after previous forays, instead choosing to further expand its crossover map.
Looking at the release schedule as a whole, Magic: The Gathering's 2026 lineup continues the seven-premier-set pace of 2025, maintaining a slate where crossovers make up more than half of the releases. Against a backdrop of polarized market reactions, this release plan is more than just a content preview—it's a clear statement from Wizards of the Coast about its future direction.
