From the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the "HG (High Grade)" 1/100 scale model kit series from "Macross" has announced the latest product from the anime "Macross Frontier," the "VF-25G Messiah Valkyrie (Mikhail Blanc's Unit)," slated for release in September 2026. This product will be simultaneously released in a standard version and a DX version with more luxurious accessories.
The VF-25 Messiah Valkyrie (Savior Variable Fighter) is the main variable fighter utilized by the New U.N. Spacy's escort fleet of the "Macross Frontier" immigrant fleet and the private military company "S.M.S." It possesses characteristics of previous models like the VF-19 Excalibur and VF-22 Sturmvogel, with enhanced performance. It also employs the new "EX-GEAR" pilot suit, which combines joystick and ejection seat functions, and the new "ISC" (Inertia Store Converter) inertial control system, which utilizes the FOLD system, to address the issue of excessive G-force load on pilots. However, the "FOLD Quartz" raw material for manufacturing ISC must be extracted from the super-dimensional lifeform "Vajra," making the aircraft's production cost quite high.
This product features the dedicated unit piloted by Mikhail Blanc, a comrade of protagonist Alto Saotome, after Alto joined the S.M.S. Skull Squadron. The kit is based on the upcoming Alto Saotome's unit, modified with new parts and new molding colors to recreate the distinct head sculpt, blue and white fuselage, and dedicated sniper rifle. Through barrel replacement parts and a single core wire, it can recreate the pose where the rifle's 8 stabilizer wings deploy and the anchoring claw is fired to stabilize the fuselage when sniping a target.
With a "simple three-stage transformation mechanism" that involves swapping some parts, it can quickly transform into FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID forms. In the BATTROID (robot) form, the variable main wings can be stored at the rear of the fuselage, and designs such as pull-out shoulder joints and three-axis chest articulation allow for highly dynamic action poses. It can be posed in combat stances with armaments such as the FOLD wave projector, shield, knife, and sniper rifle.
In FIGHTER form, replacement parts can recreate the deployed landing gear and open cockpit canopy, allowing a mini pilot figure to be placed inside. The cockpit canopy is made of a polarizing material that changes color depending on the reflection angle. Additionally, it includes five-layer color-correcting stickers made from aluminum-vapor-deposited PET film, characterized by extreme thinness, high opacity, and vibrant color reproduction, allowing for easy recreation of numerous fuselage markings.
The DX version, with its more luxurious accessories, includes the standard model kit, and additionally features a newly drawn "Ranka Lee Double-Sided Illustration Acrylic Stand" and "Ranka Lee Water-Slide Decals" by Risa Ebata, the character designer for "Macross Frontier." These include various patterns, such as the "KIRA☆" pose from her iconic song "Seikan Hikou," which can be freely applied to various parts of the fuselage.
