Do you remember being a kid, rushing home from school every day just to watch "Mazinger Z" on time? Now, a father in Taiwan, inspired by his five-year-old son's words, has personally recreated this half-century-old steel legend with LEGO — and what's more, the eyes light up when the Pilder docks!
That day, I shared my favorite childhood cartoon, "Mazinger Z," with my five-year-old son. After watching it, his eyes lit up and he turned to me and said, "Dad, when I grow up, I'm going to design a real, pilotable Mazinger Z to save the world!"
I thought, not even the great Go Nagai was that ambitious! But perhaps in his future world, it's possible. Because of that one sentence, I decided to give him a different kind of Christmas present — for father and son to build Mazinger Z together with LEGO. And so began the six-month-long "Mazinger Z Back Project."
In every boy's heart, there is a Mazinger Z. It's not just a robot; it's the embodiment of courage, strength, and dreams. Since its first broadcast in 1972, it has captivated the world, spanning generations of childhoods and becoming synonymous with the word "hero" for many. In an era without video games and smartphones, we all naively dreamed that one day, we too could pilot the Pilder and save the world.

And "Mazinger Z" is the very first "piloted" giant robot in anime history. Its name, "Mazinger," is a portmanteau of Machine and God, signifying "the steel power of a demon god." Now, this power is reborn in LEGO form, awaiting your support to let our childhood hero truly step off the screen!
Demon God Awakens! Two Classic Gimmicks Recreated
"Pilder, On!" The most iconic moment from our childhood memories, symbolizing the union of pilot and machine. A magnet is hidden beneath the Pilder for the ''Magnetically Controlled Dual-Eye LEDs''. This design precisely captures that magical moment: when the Pilder docks, Mazinger Z's eyes instantly "awaken," allowing the builder to relive the thrill of watching it on screen as a child.

"Missile Punch, Fire!" A gear-linked turning mechanism. When the waist hatches open, the internal missiles automatically rotate 90 degrees to face the target, complete with a flashing warning light, perfectly recreating the tension of a "combat-ready state"!
These two gimmicks were all "innocent requests" from my five-year-old son. After countless failures, rebuilds, and adjustments, we finally completed this "challenge from son to father," and were fortunate enough to make this creation truly "come alive."
A colossal 64cm tall body! A full 12cm taller than the Hulkbuster, it would be the largest mech in LEGO history.

36 Points of Articulation To satisfy the dramatic scenarios in my son's imagination, the entire body has 36 points of articulation, allowing for a variety of incredibly cool poses, making it extremely playable.
It can stand independently, be displayed with a maintenance bay scene, and even stood firm against two "earth dragon turn-overs" (earthquakes) that occurred in Taiwan last year!
Paired with Koji Kabuto, the Doctor, and three engineer minifigures, along with its 36 points of articulation, this is absolutely a nostalgic classic that global fans will treasure!
From a father's promise to a dream submission on LEGO IDEAS, these 6 months have been filled with bending over to sift through bricks at various LEGO stores, countless teardowns and rebuilds, and seeing the sunrise... Just as the project was nearing completion, my son suddenly said innocently, "Wouldn't it be great if this could become a real LEGO set?"

Hmm... I thought, for all the fans from the '60s and '70s who love Mazinger Z, how wonderful it would be if they could experience the joy of the entire building process.
So, we submitted our Mazinger Z to the Danish LEGO IDEAS platform. It has currently surpassed 2,000 votes of support. If we reach the 10,000-vote goal, Mazinger Z will have the chance to stand on store shelves worldwide for everyone to see!

Facing the challenge of nearly 4,000 projects from around the world is as difficult as climbing to the heavens. I told my son: "When you face a challenge, you have to be like Mazinger Z and just fight for it!"
And now, every vote of support from you is a giant step for Mazinger Z towards its goal. Thank you for participating in this cross-generational dream relay. You are the key driving force to help this Mazinger Z "stand on the world stage"!
Vote now to support the LEGO MOC by Taiwan's OLE1969 and let Mazinger Z awaken in the LEGO world! This isn't just about supporting an IDEAS project; it's about upholding a timeless pact between a father and his boy, giving everyone's childhood hero a chance to step out of memory and into reality!

Vote to support and get a chance to win! A LEGO Mazinger Z valued at NT$10,000
To thank all the friends and family who have voted to support our difficult father-son LEGO dream, at each milestone, I will use the last four digits of that month's Uniform Invoice Lottery Special Prize to select a lucky friend whose voting serial number matches (e.g., 5888). I, Tsai Shih-Wen, will personally give you one 64cm tall Mazinger Z to treasure, play with, and collect dust. This is not affiliated with the official LEGO company. Even if the dream of official production isn't realized, I will still build one for you as promised. But remember to take a screenshot of your personal (voting serial number) and post it in the comments on my FB so I can find you.
