The original "Scream" franchise and its beloved parody counterpart, "Scary Movie," both happen to have new installments arriving this year. While "Scream" is gearing up for its seventh film, "Scary Movie" is set to release its sixth installment after a 13-year hiatus. Paramount Pictures, the distributor for both major franchises, has decided to capitalize on this with a unique cross-promotional campaign. This joint effort means the first trailer for "Scary Movie 6" will debut in theaters before the earlier-releasing "Scream 7."
Marlon Wayans, who starred in and co-wrote "Scary Movie," "Scary Movie 2," and is returning for "Scary Movie 6," recently made a surprise announcement about the marketing strategy on the "Rap Attack" podcast. He revealed that the "Scary Movie 6" trailer would be unveiled on February 27th (the North American release date) before "Scream 7" in theaters, advising moviegoers seeing "Scream 7" to look out for it.
While "Scream 7" is set to hit North American theaters on February 27th, "Scary Movie 6" is slated for a North American release on June 12th. The earlier arrival of the original franchise will thus serve as a perfect warm-up for the spoof's promotional run.
