Entertainment outlet Deadline exclusively reported today that Hanks will star as Lincoln in the upcoming film "Lincoln in the Bardo," also serving as a producer through Playtone, the production company he co-founded. The movie is an adaptation of George Saunders' 2017 debut novel of the same name. This fictional tale follows Lincoln's young son, Willie Lincoln, who died prematurely from typhoid. In the graveyard, Willie encounters three ghosts who urge him not to linger in the mortal world. Just as he decides to let go of his earthly attachments, his father arrives to mourn at the grave, altering Willie's original resolve.
Duke Johnson, co-director of "Anomalisa," is set to direct the film, with Saunders himself penning the screenplay. Production is slated to begin in London, UK. Notably, the movie will blend live-action performances with Johnson's acclaimed stop-motion animation techniques.
