Following the global success of "Minecraft Movie," which grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide last year, a sequel has long been in development and is slated for a July 23, 2027 release. This means production is set to begin soon, and new cast members are starting to emerge. Renowned entertainment journalist Daniel Richtman recently reported that the sequel is scheduled to commence filming next month, with Joey King (pictured below) likely joining as a key new character.

Richtman noted on his Patreon page that Joey King, known for her roles in "Bullet Train" and "White House Down," is in talks to play a major new character in "Minecraft Movie 2." Richtman speculates the role could be Alex, a character from the original video game, or an entirely new character created specifically for the film. However, with filming imminent, an official cast announcement is expected soon, which should reveal the character's identity.
