BANPRESTO, the toy brand under Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS known for its impressive lineup of prize figures and character models, is set to release a new figure featuring the legendary Japanese comedian, Ken Shimura. This highly anticipated "Ai~n! Baka Tonosama" figure, depicting his iconic white-faced character from "Shimura Ken's Baka Tonosama," is scheduled to launch in May 2026!
Ken Shimura (志村けん), a heavyweight in Japanese comedy, famously portrayed the unforgettable "Baka Tonosama" (Idiot Lord) in "Shimura Ken's Baka Tonosama," a special segment of the "Shimura's Big Laugh" series that first aired in 1986. Each appearance saw the Baka Tonosama accompanied by beautiful women, with the foolish lord engaging in various lewd and silly antics to playfully tease them, solidifying this as one of Shimura's most significant comedic personas.
The BANPRESTO "Ai~n! Baka Tonosama" figure faithfully recreates the immensely popular life-sized photo prop from the "Shimura's Big Laugh Exhibition" Japan tour, scaled down to a collectible 12 cm. It perfectly captures Ken Shimura's portrayal of the Baka Tonosama, complete with his signature "Ai~n!" comedic pose. The figure boasts intricate detailing on his luxurious haori and hakama attire, and even includes a traditional cushion and folding screen, perfectly embodying the Lord's noble yet hilariously absurd presence!
