Produced by Japan's PLEX company and released by X-PLUS company, the soft vinyl figure series themed on Daiei's special effects monsters, "Daiei 30cm Series," has announced the latest product from the special effects film "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion," the "Gamera (1996) Renewal Ver.," scheduled for release in June 2026. This product will be simultaneously released in a standard edition and a Shonen RIC limited edition.
Appearing in the Heisei Gamera trilogy, Gamera is set as a bio-weapon created by an ancient civilization using the Earth's life energy, "Mana." After defeating several man-eating monsters, "Gyaos," in the first film, his abilities grew, but in the sequel, he encountered an even more powerful alien species, "Legion." Struggling in battle, Gamera, to protect Earth's ecosystem, did not hesitate to extensively use Earth's Mana energy to unleash the "Ultimate Plasma Fireball" to eliminate Legion, but this also caused the accelerated hatching of "Gyaos" eggs worldwide.
This product commemorates the 30th anniversary of the release of "Gamera 2: Attack of Legion," re-releasing the "Daiei 30cm Series Gamera (1996)" from 2012 with renewed colors. The overall sculpt retains the highly realistic design of the standard edition, reproducing the wrinkles of the entire body's skin and the complex and intricate patterns on both sides of the shell. The inside of the mouth also features highly biological teeth and tongue sculpts. The overall coloring has been re-adjusted based on his appearance during the battle with Legion in the film, featuring a more saturated green shell paint application.
Furthermore, the limited edition sold on the official online store "Shonen RIC" will include an additional 300 "Soldier Legion" mini-figures. Each figure measures approximately 1.5 cm wide and is molded in a single purple color. The details are more refined and sharper compared to the 1/700 plastic model version also released by X-PLUS, allowing for the terrifying scene of the Legion army swarming Gamera's entire body to be recreated!
