BANDAI HOBBY, the plastic model brand under Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., has announced the rerelease of the latest product from the 'RG (Real Grade)' Gunpla series, which incorporates exterior armor, internal frames, interlocking armor, and new technologies into 1/144 scale Gunpla. The 'RG 1/144 Destiny Gundam Deactive Mode', from 'Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY', is scheduled for rerelease in June 2026. This product will be exclusively sold on BANDAI's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam is the latest mobile suit developed under the direction of Gilbert Durandal, Chairman of the P.L.A.N.T. Supreme Council, for the Z.A.F.T. military before their decisive battle with the Earth Alliance. It serves as the successor unit for Z.A.F.T. pilot Shin Asuka. Developed based on the Impulse Gundam's design, the Destiny Gundam integrates the equipment of the Force, Blast, and Sword Silhouette systems into a single unit. It also utilizes technologies prohibited by the Junius Treaty, such as the Hyper Duetrion Engine and Mirage Colloid particles. It can deploy 'Wings of Light' for super acceleration and scatter Mirage Colloid particles to create afterimages, significantly surpassing the performance of second-generation mobile suits like the Impulse Gundam.
The 'RG 1/144 Destiny Gundam Deactive Mode' is a modified version of the previously released regular kit. It utilizes various shades of gray molded parts to represent the low-saturation state of the 'VPS Armor' when inactive in the series. It also includes 'Realistic Decals' featuring original unit markings and other designs, allowing for the creation of metallic color accents for glowing parts like the twin-eye cameras and sensors, as well as joints and internal frames, while enhancing the detail density of the entire armor with markings.
Aside from the color scheme, the design is identical to the regular release. Each armor part features the series' characteristic precise part separation, meticulously sculpted with rich detail at 1/144 scale. The entire internal frame is constructed using integrated 'Advanced MS Joint' frame parts, combined with multiple armor interlocking mechanisms to achieve dynamic combat poses. However, older RG products released before 2016 that utilized a full 'Advanced MS Joint' frame often had issues with low joint durability and parts easily detaching.
The armament includes a High-Energy Beam Rifle, an Anti-Beam Shield, shoulder-mounted 'Beam Boomerangs', beam shield effect parts, and the large backpack-mounted weapons: the 'Arondight' Beam Sword and the High-Energy Long-Range Beam Cannon. The twin wings can be extensively deployed to recreate its powerful silhouette, and can be combined with separately sold effect parts to reproduce the 'Wings of Light' deployment.
