The robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT SPIRITS ver. A.N.I.M.E." from TAMASHII NATIONS, the collectors' toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, has announced the latest product from the anime "Mobile Suit Z Gundam," the "Super Gundam," slated for release in September 2026.
The Super Gundam is a fire support type mobile suit formed by the combination of the "RX-178 Gundam Mk-II" and the "FXA-05D G-Defenser." As the Gryps Conflict intensified and numerous high-firepower, high-mobility transformable mobile suits emerged, the support fighter "G-Defenser" was developed to enable the Gundam Mk-II to meet wartime demands. When the two units combine, they can compensate for performance gaps in firepower, defense, and cruising range compared to next-generation mobile suits. Its armaments include a high-output long-range beam rifle and a 14-tube missile pod, allowing it to support the Z Gundam in mid-to-long-range combat, though its increased weight makes it relatively cumbersome in close-quarters battle.
The "ROBOT SPIRITS Super Gundam ver. A.N.I.M.E." utilizes the body of the previously released "Gundam Mk-II ver. A.N.I.M.E.," with its white armor parts modified to a bright gray. The newly produced "G-Defenser" also adopts a refined design that closely matches the anime's aesthetic, in line with the series' style. Through its connection mechanism, it can combine with the Gundam Mk-II to recreate the "Super Gundam" or the high-speed cruising form "G-Flyer."
In addition to connecting to the Gundam Mk-II's back for combination and allowing the Gundam Mk-II to wield the massive "Long-Range Beam Rifle," the G-Defenser also features a hatch deployment mechanism for its 14-tube missile pod, a detachable escape pod that can transform into flight mode, and highly flexible movable mechanical arms that recreate its transformation mechanism. These arms allow the "float" sections on both sides to be rotated above the Gundam Mk-II's head, achieving an original ROBOT SPIRITS form.
Accessories include the Gundam Mk-II's original armaments such as a beam rifle, shield, hyper bazooka, head vulcan pod system, beam saber, spare energy pack, and spare bazooka magazine. Additionally, beam firing effects for the "Long-Range Beam Rifle" and jet propulsion effects for the escape pod are included, allowing for more immersive battle scene recreations.
