To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the anime Blue Comet SPT Layzner, BANDAI SPIRITS Collectors Division TAMASHII NATIONS, which issues the alloy model series 『HI-METAL R』, has announced the release of a brand-new commemorative product, 「Layzner」, slated for September 2026.
The robot anime Blue Comet SPT Layzner, which aired in 1985, is set against a fictional backdrop where the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union extended into the era of Mars exploration. The protagonist, Albatro Null Eiji Asuka, a hybrid of Gradosian and Earthling, unwilling to witness the Gradosian Empire's invasion of Earth, pilots the second-generation SPT prototype 「SPT-LZ-00X Layzner」, developed by his father, to Mars to thwart the attack. He then rushes back to Earth to inform of the invasion plan and, together with the Earth forces, defends against the Gradosian Empire's offensive.
The 「HI-METAL R Layzner」 will feature a completely new sculpt, meticulously reproducing the classic design proportions based on the setting illustrations drawn by mechanical designer Kunio Okawara. It will also boast a flexible articulation mechanism, allowing for various dynamic poses. This product marks the HI-METAL series' first-ever inclusion of a light-up mechanism, enabling the head's twin eyes to glow when illuminated.
