The popular die-cast toy series 'METAL BUILD', released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., has announced the latest product from the anime 'Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans', the 'Gundam Barbatos Expansion Weapon Set', scheduled for release in August 2026.
The 'Gundam Barbatos (4th Form) + Boomerang Mace', scheduled for release in June this year, features development drawings re-illustrated and thoroughly supervised by Naohiro Washio, the original mechanical designer. It integrates the METAL BUILD series' style, giving Gundam Barbatos a higher density of detailed sculpting. The 'Gundam Frame', made of die-cast parts, provides a substantial metallic texture. Most notably, it includes newly designed armaments such as a 'cape' and 'boomerang mace' by Naohiro Washio and anime director Tatsuyuki Nagai.
This time, the 'Gundam Barbatos Expansion Weapon Set' adds even more armaments, including the '460mm Rifled Cannon' and 'Modified Gundam Barbatos partial armaments', which were additionally set by mechanical designer Naohiro Washio and anime director Tatsuyuki Nagai after the TV anime concluded. These can be combined with the separately sold Gundam Barbatos main unit for customization.
First up is the METAL BUILD original large-scale equipment, the '460mm Rifled Cannon', designed by mechanical designer Naohiro Washio. It includes a fuel tank mounted on the rear waist of Gundam Barbatos, and the 28 cm long '460mm Rifled Cannon' suspended on both sides. Its precise sculpting faithfully reproduces the massive barrel, the shield mounted at the end of the gun body, and large thrusters. The connecting parts and pivots of the mechanical arm are made of die-cast material, providing a certain degree of holding power, allowing it to recreate high-speed propulsion poses with an auxiliary stand.
And from the new form 'Modified Gundam Barbatos', featured in the 10th-anniversary new short animation 'Interlude of the Wedge', come parts such as the thrusters on both sides of the waist that recreate the 'retro-thruster mechanism', and two weapons provided by Teiwaz: the 'Tachi' and 'Kodachi'. The waist thrusters have been reinterpreted to match the 'METAL BUILD Gundam Barbatos' style, featuring more precise details, and can be swapped using adapter parts.
