The thriller "The Housemaid," which grossed nearly $400 million worldwide, recently announced Cannes Best Actress Kirsten Dunst joining the cast of its sequel, "The Housemaid's Secret." This morning, the official release date for "The Housemaid's Secret" was quickly set for December 17, 2027, with production slated to begin soon.
The chosen release date for "The Housemaid's Secret" also marks the premiere of Marvel's cinematic behemoth, "Avengers: Secret Wars." If neither film shifts its schedule, the two blockbusters are set for a direct box office clash.
The original "The Housemaid" novel is a trilogy. "The Housemaid's Secret" follows Sydney Sweeney's returning character, Millie, as she takes on a new housekeeping job for another wealthy family. She soon discovers that this new household harbors dark secrets, and the mistress of the house appears to be suffering abuse from her husband. These unsettling circumstances ignite Millie's sense of justice, compelling her to intervene and help the victim.
Paul Feig, who directed the first "The Housemaid" film and is known for the "A Simple Favor" series, is expected to return to helm the sequel. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who penned the first installment, will also return to write the screenplay. Italian actor Michele Morrone, who played Enzo the gardener in the first film, is also set to reprise his role.
