"Like a Dragon" Producer Responds to Jack Black's Interest in Live-Action Role, Considers Reaching Out Despite No Immediate Part

Masayoshi Yokoyama, writer and producer for the "Like a Dragon" (Ryu Ga Gotoku) series, recently addressed Jack Black's public interest in a live-action adaptation. Yokoyama stated that while he couldn't immediately think of a suitable role, he is considering reaching out to the actor, sparking considerable discussion among fans.

Yokoyama, who has contributed to the scripts of numerous "Like a Dragon" titles and served as producer since "Like a Dragon 5," took over as head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio in 2021. He posted on social media, saying, "I can't think of any role at all, and I don't know how to contact him, but maybe I should try to reach out (laughs)." This comment was widely seen as a direct response to Black's public declaration.

Jack Black had recently expressed his desire to be part of a "Like a Dragon" live-action project. He jokingly suggested he might be suitable for the role of "a chubby American" and directly appealed to SEGA, saying, "If there's an opportunity, talk to me." His remarks quickly went viral, with many players beginning to imagine which character he could portray.

In recent years, Jack Black has frequently taken on roles in video game adaptations. He notably voiced Bowser in "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and is set to star in the "Minecraft Movie" and "Borderlands," solidifying his status as a recurring presence in game-to-film projects.

Despite the excitement, there are currently no concrete plans for a "Like a Dragon" live-action film or series starring Jack Black. Nevertheless, Yokoyama's response has fueled fan anticipation for a potential collaboration, leaving the possibility of this cross-industry partnership open for future developments.
