The alloy figure series 'HI-METAL R', released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, has officially announced its latest product, 'Layzner', scheduled for release in September 2026, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the anime 'Blue Comet SPT Layzner'.
The robot anime 'Blue Comet SPT Layzner', which aired in 1985, is set against a fictional backdrop where the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union extended into the era of Mars exploration. The protagonist, Albatro Narr Eiji Asuka, a half-human, half-Gratean, unwilling to witness the Gratean Empire's invasion of Earth, pilots the second-generation SPT prototype 'SPT-LZ-00X Layzner', developed by his father, to Mars to thwart an attack. He then returns to Earth to warn of the invasion plan and, together with the Earth forces, defends against the Gratean Empire's offensive.
The 'HI-METAL R Layzner' is crafted with an entirely new sculpt, faithfully recreating the classic design proportions with its slightly oversized head, based on the original design sketches by mechanical designer Kunio Okawara. The entire body's blue armor not only features rich surface detailing, but also incorporates armor deployment mechanisms in multiple areas such as the shoulders, arms, and calves, allowing the internal structure to be revealed and showcasing the heat dissipation state after activating 'V-MAX'.
The entire figure leverages years of accumulated expertise to create an extremely flexible joint design, allowing for dynamic poses that capture Layzner's agile combat in various environments such as Earth, Mars, and space. The neck can also be extended upwards using interchangeable parts, recreating the forward-looking posture during flight. Armaments include a laser rifle with interchangeable magazine parts, missiles detachable from the rear of the calves, and articulated finger parts on the wrists, enabling the recreation of its punch attacks.
The distinctive cockpit in the head features a transparent canopy deployment mechanism and intricately sculpted interior pilot seat. It can be paired with two Eiji pilot figures to recreate scenes such as piloting or the ascending/descending states when standing. Furthermore, the head is equipped with a light-up mechanism for the first time in the HI-METAL R series, allowing its eyes to glow green, recreating its impressive appearance during space battles in the show.
