Released by BANPRESTO, a prize figure brand under Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, the 'ART VIGNETTE' series, which combines exquisite monster sculpting with diorama scenes, has announced its latest product from the 1996 film 'Mothra', the 'Mothra (1996)', is scheduled for release in August 2026.
The 1996 film 'Mothra', starring Toho's popular monster Mothra, depicts the revival of the cosmic monster 'Desghidorah', which invaded Earth 65 million years ago and caused the extinction of dinosaurs, after its seal was broken. The Parent Mothra, having laid its eggs and awaiting the end of its lifespan, sought to prevent Desghidorah from absorbing Earth's life force, but ultimately sank into the sea as its life came to an end. Its offspring, the New Mothra, though prematurely born, absorbed the energy of the ancient Yakusugi trees in the forest while cocooning, eventually emerging as the strongest Mothra in history, successfully sealing away the immortal Desghidorah once again.
The 'ART VIGNETTE Mothra (1996)' is crafted in a size of 5 cm in height and 14 cm in width, bringing to life the Parent Mothra from the film, after laying its eggs at the Infant Island temple and preparing to take flight for its decisive battle with Desghidorah. The overall sculpting meticulously captures the ancient altar's stone walls and stairs within the temple, as well as the dynamic movement of Mothra's wings. Furthermore, rich color applications are used to depict the magnificent patterns on Mothra's wings and the circular textures and spots on the surface of Mothra's eggs.
