Sony Pictures announced today they have signed a first-look deal with Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing duo behind the upcoming "Final Destination: Bloodlines." Their future collaborations under this agreement will include the highly anticipated live-action film adaptation of "Metal Gear Solid."
Even before securing their role on the "Metal Gear Solid" project, Stein and Lipovsky had already been tapped by Sony to direct an animated "Venom" film and the original sci-fi feature "The Earthling." This new deal further solidifies their burgeoning partnership with the studio.

The Hollywood adaptation of Hideo Kojima's iconic "Metal Gear Solid" franchise was first announced way back in 2006. Over the years, a revolving door of directorial talent was rumored to be attached, including Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium") and Paul W.S. Anderson, known for the "Resident Evil" series. Most recently, "Kong: Skull Island" director Jordan Vogt-Roberts spent several years developing the script in collaboration with Kojima himself.
Six years ago, acclaimed actor Oscar Isaac was reportedly cast as the legendary protagonist Solid Snake. However, Isaac's name was conspicuously absent from today's official press release, leading to speculation that he may no longer be involved in the long-gestating project.
