Netflix & Sony Team Up for "Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory" Animated Film, Set for 2027 Release: New Willy Wonka Story Unveiled

Netflix and Sony Pictures have announced a new animated film, "Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory," slated for a 2027 release. The movie will reimagine the world of the classic children's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" from a fresh perspective, drawing significant attention from fans.

The film is directed by Jared Stern, known for "The LEGO Batman Movie," with animation handled by Sony Pictures Imageworks, the studio behind "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."

The voice cast includes Kit Connor and Taika Waititi, with Waititi set to voice the iconic character Willy Wonka, following previous portrayals by Gene Wilder, Johnny Depp, and Timothée Chalamet.

Set years after the "Golden Ticket" incident, the story finds Wonka imprisoned for previously turning children into blueberries. Upon his release, he returns to the chocolate factory, aiming to bring sweetness back to the world. However, his plans are thwarted by a new character, Charley Paley, and his companions. These teenagers, facing the loss of their homes, plot to infiltrate the factory to steal valuable chocolate, only to confront a new series of fantastical and dangerous challenges.

Official concept art reveals a vibrantly colored Wonka factory standing amidst a modern London streetscape, featuring purple glass and pink signage. Its chimneys emit colorful smoke, creating a striking visual style.
