Gina Carano, a former cast member of the "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian," faced significant backlash five years ago after posting a controversial comparison, likening the situation of American Republicans at the time to that of Jews during the Nazi Holocaust. Carano steadfastly refused to apologize, leading Disney and Lucasfilm, eager to resolve the public relations crisis, to dismiss her.
Subsequently, Carano received financial backing for her legal fees from Elon Musk, who had a history of disagreements with Disney. She proceeded to sue Disney for wrongful termination and successfully reached a settlement, bringing the matter to a close. At the time, Disney even issued a statement, expressing hope for future collaboration with Carano.
While some might have dismissed Disney's statement as mere corporate pleasantries, it appears the studio was serious. In a recent interview on "The Ariel Helwani Show," Carano revealed that discussions are indeed underway for her potential return to the "Star Wars" franchise. "I've spoken with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, and they were very kind," Carano stated. "You know, after we settled the lawsuit, we had a Zoom call, and it felt really good. Dave is now taking over as CEO of 'Star Wars,' and our interactions haven't been affected at all. Jon Favreau was also very humorous; he asked me, 'Where did we leave off last time?'"
While Carano did not elaborate on specific return plans (which may not be finalized yet), it is clear that both parties share a mutual interest in making this happen.
