High-end collectible manufacturer Hiya Toys has just revealed its latest addition to the EXQUISITE BASIC Series, straight from the 2014 film "Godzilla": the Male & Female M.U.T.O. Set, slated for a Q2 2027 release.
The M.U.T.O.s are original Titans from Legendary's "MonsterVerse," first appearing as Godzilla's primary antagonists in the 2014 film. Their name is an acronym for "Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism," and like Godzilla, they are ancient enemies from the Permian period that feed on nuclear energy. Resembling massive, eight-legged insects, the female M.U.T.O. is significantly larger with powerful forelimbs, while the smaller male can unfurl a massive pair of wings to achieve flight.
This EXQUISITE BASIC Male & Female M.U.T.O. Set builds upon the 2024 standalone release of the female, now pairing the approximately 15cm (5.9 inches) tall Female M.U.T.O. with an all-new, 11cm (4.3 inches) tall Male M.U.T.O. Both figures feature a dark gray color scheme that highlights the incredibly organic and irregular textures of their exoskeletons, and their eyes are treated with fluorescent paint to replicate their signature orange glow. Multiple points of articulation in the torso and limbs of both creatures allow collectors to recreate their fierce battle stances from the movie.
The Female M.U.T.O. features an articulated jaw and tongue, and the eggs on her abdomen are finished with a special paint that reveals a fluorescent effect under a blacklight. The Male M.U.T.O. includes two sets of interchangeable wings, achieving an impressive wingspan of 33cm (13 inches). The wing membranes are crafted from a soft PVC material with embedded wires, allowing for dynamic posing. As a key accessory, the set also includes a nuclear warhead that the Male M.U.T.O. can carry in its jaws, perfect for recreating iconic moments from the film.
